Its tabletop, made of medium-toned recycled pine, bears the marks of lived wood — pronounced knots, natural color variations, slight surface irregularities that remind us that this wood had a life before becoming a dining table. This is precisely what the Japandi aesthetic values: beauty in the authentic, in controlled imperfection, in materials that do not pretend to be anything other than what they are.
The blackened wood frame is the signature of the Authentic Table. This process, inspired by the ancient Japanese technique of shou sugi ban, involves charring the wood surface to give it a deep dark hue and increased resistance.
